Facing Adversity: Encouragement When Facing Trials
November 20, 2019
In This Life…
These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have
peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation; but be of good cheer; I have
overcome the world. John 16:33 KJV
What happens when we come face to face with adversity? In James 1:2-4 the Bible
teaches us to consider it pure joy when we face trials of many kinds. The key
word is face; not flee, retreat or cower but face. Whenever we face
any type of trial or adversity, our human nature wants to retreat because
trials are extremely uncomfortable and painful.
Life is filled with different obstacles,
and adversity is one of them. At times, we find ourselves in the middle of an
adverse situation where we “feel” the plague of pain and suffering is
unwarranted. However, what if it is necessary? What if the pain is supposed to
draw out purpose, and audaciousness? And, what if our breakthrough is on the
When I lost my daughter, Amyia, I
thought life had dealt me an unfair hand. I was broken, and I wasn’t sure if I
was going to survive however, when I thought about my one-year old son,
Christian, I knew I had to go through the pain and suffering so that I could come
out on the other side of it. Through my pain I found purpose to help others who
lost their children, to minister to them and give them hope. Hope for the life
and future that God promised us, For I
know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace,
and not of evil, to give you an expected end, Jeremiah. 29:11. If I would’ve
unpacked my bags and remained in my pain, I would not have been able to help
others and most importantly myself.
Through the many faces of adversity,
there is always purpose, in Romans 8:28 God works all things out for the good
of those who love Him and are called according to His purpose. He understands
that we will endure pain and suffering, and what He does is creates something
magnificent and beautiful from our pain; although the circumstances may not
seem favorable, our pain can be transformed into power.
Don’t give up
Though He slay me, yet I will trust in Him: but I will maintain mine own ways before Him. Job 13:15 KJV
When we are face- to- face with adversity, I do believe and have experienced myself, the feeling of defeat, brokenness, and worst of all fear. There is something within that wants to cower because the experience of pain is so uncomfortable. Our adversity stretches and test us and after the stretching and testing are over we will come out with resilience, perseverance, endurance, and strength. You will be amazed with how strong you truly are.
It’s time to overcome
Adversity, pain, suffering, and trials
are never a destination. We are not to unpack our bags and construct pain as our
permanent place of residence. To overcome, we must change our perspective and
have the mindset that with prayer, faith, patience and time we will push
through and overcome.
I want to encourage you today to push through the pain that will lead you to your purpose. I also want to encourage you to create a community of women who will speak life affirmations over your adverse circumstances, to worship at the feet of our Father, and sing praises to His Almighty name and to push back the thoughts which are trying to hold you bound. My prayer for your life is that our Heavenly Father will give you knowledge and wisdom; to make you better not bitter as you face adversity.
